Coffee Addict Confession
Written by Jenna

Today, oh today, what a day! We awoke to freezing rain that had made the streets paved in ice. The schools were on a 2 hour delay by 6:30 and around that same time it started freezing raining really super hard. By 7:45 they’d closed the schools completely and as it turned out, the latest I heard was there was only one school district open in this entire side of the state!! Everything ended up closing, even the courts. By 8:40 it started snowing….and snowing… and snowing….. It snowed until dinner time. All day long it snowed. We accumulated quite a bit of snow! The kids were thrilled. Unlike the last couple times it has snowed in the past month, this time there was enough to build snowmen and crunch around in with their snow boots! At 11:45 we decided to venture out for peppermint mochas from Starbucks (my fave.) Somehow I had a feeling something would go wrong, but as a coffee addict, we decided to go anyway, ignoring common sense. We got to Lockhaven and were stopped on McClure at the stop sign, ready to turn left. We saw the little red sedan start to turn the corner but it seemed unreal watching what happened next. We saw it turn the corner and lose traction, we saw it heading straight for us, we started saying “uh oh, oh no, oh no, oh no!” but we had no where to go. Jimi tried to move our van out of the way of the sliding car but our tires couldn’t grip the pavement fast enough to perform. We watched in shock as the red car plowed into the side of our van. Immediately I felt anger and regret well up inside of me. “Oh that’s just great!” I exclaimed. “Of course this would happen. Of Course! Was it THAT important that I go get a mocha?! Geez!!!” We got out of our van to inspect the damage, knowing how hard the red car slammed us, and expecting to see our whole driver’s side to be caved in. Miraculously, it was only a little scraped up and not even dented, from what we could tell. The red car did not fair quite as well, but even their damage was not bad. The biggest blessing was none of us or they were hurt. Though Jeff yelled out “Ouch!” when the accident occurred, both he and I only suffered minor stress headaches that went away after a few hours. After exchanging information and snapping photos with our cell phones, we were faced with the decision whether to turn back for home or continue on our journey to mocha-heaven. We decided we’d made it this far, already endured a car accident, and we were not going home without peppermint mochas!! We were going to make that wreck worth it!! We safely arrived at Starbucks, where I bluntly told the girl behind the counter that this better be a darn good mocha because I’d gotten in a car accident for it! She was shocked and asked if I was serious, to which I assured her I certainly was. To my surprise, they took pity on me and took extra time to make the mocha extra delicious and believe you me, it was! I savored every last drop of that baby for everything we endured to get it for me. So was it worth it? I don’t know, but it was indeed a delicious treat and satisfied my addictive craving! If I could go back in time and decide to just stay home with a pot of Folger’s, would I? Probably. LOL Anyway, after that adventure, I spent the rest of the day printing all the photos I’m taken this morning of the kids and dogs playing in the snow,. We had chili and cornbread for dinner, and ended the day watching t.v. on the couch. Then we got ready for bed, praying for a clear, dry, ice-free tomorrow!!

By the picture it says...

This is the street we were on right before we got hit. I found this picture on my cell phone. I forgot I snapped it, hanging my arm out the window, right before we got up to Lockhaven and he came sliding around the corner and into us. I guess it's no wonder we got in a wreck. You can't see the pavement at all. it's totally covered in ice and snow. There was nothing for the tires to grip!
