These layouts were made in late 2002 early 2003. This is "My Mothers History". This is page 1 of 2 of a 12x12 layout spread but I have not completed page 2, so it is not included. These are my great-grandparents on my mother's side. I used some corner stickers and a few other stickers that went with the theme of being older. Of course, there is a biography again because this is so important and it reads: Charles Walker Borders & Mary Eliza (DeAtley) Borders, My Great Grandparents.
Charles Walker Borders was born on April 9, 1873 in Wapella, Illinois. His parents were Joseph and Ruth Borders. I do not have any history on what he did in his lifetime, only a few pictures. I do know that they called him Charlie for short. Many people in the family have worn Charlies Dress from his childhood. I also am using Charlie's Chest for all of my families memorbelia, which I feel is special.
Mary Eliza DeAtley was born on October 18, 1874 in Tollesboro, Kentucky. Her parents were William Washington DeAtley II and Lucy DeAtley. They were second cousins. Mary Eliza was called Maw for short in her older days. I am thinking this is because my mother lived with her for most of her childhood so she became a second mother to her. Maw was a school teacher for many years. She taught the 1st and 2nd grade and got her degree to teach around 1896 in Kentucky. She was a true Christian woman. She had very strict ways about her. She lived to be 96 years old. Journaling on bottom right: Charlie and Maw were married on December 25th (Christmas Day) in Wapella, Illinois. I am not sure of the year. NOTE: above is a scanned in photo of their marriage certificate. Bottom right you will see a professional picture taken of the two.
