“The Moment of Truth” …………….. Journaling says: “NOT: Getting Married But... walking down the aisle with your father. ………………
Living in a time period when the word “divorce” was spoken in whispers, my grandparents got a divorce. In my ‘forgotten or unknown memories’ I have no details on what happened or when. What I do know is that my grandparents apparently came from different backgrounds, including different religions. There was a hidden barrier – or perhaps hostility between the ‘in-laws’. But somehow they married in 1925 and managed to have 6 children. ………………

Apparently in 1947 my grandparents separated and were officially divorced in 1953. My grandfather remarried some time that same year. However, he did walk my mother down the aisle at her wedding in 1951. I am sure there was tension in the air at this time. You can see the strain on their faces here as well as in the group picture. …………………………….

So, with this anxious moment, the joining of two young people in love began. This is my mother, preparing to take that precious walk to my father. On this day, April 21, 1951, my parents wed. And I treasure this picture, for I know that my grandfather endured ‘whatever discomforts’ to be present and walk his little girl to meet the man she fell in love with and present her to him.
Thank you, grandpa.”
