This lo was for ThinkPink's "Regrets" Challenge (it won too, yeah!). I thought it would be good to write a letter to Rowdy describing his Great Grandma and Grandpa that passed away before he was born. Journaling reads,
"My Dearest Rowdy,

I regret that we didn’t have you sooner. Your Daddy and I always wanted to wait until we were ready to be parents. It took a little longer than most though. But when we finally decided to try to get pregnant it took nearly three years! If you had been born a few years earlier you would have known two very great people – your Great-Grandmother and your Grandfather. They were both taken away much too soon.

Your Great-Grandmother was such a free spirit! She was a very strong willed lady. She was always there to cheer you up with her wonderful laugh and warm smile. She was so close with your Daddy. He absolutely adored her. Since I never got to know my grandparents, I latched on to Sue and she welcomed me into the family with open arms. Your great-grandmother was a very special lady.

Your Grandfather was a wonderful man. Sometimes he seemed a little rough around the edges but once you got to know him he was a very loving individual. He was so proud of your Daddy and what he had accomplished. He was always there to lend a helping hand with anything to anyone. He really enjoyed being outdoors with nature and he loved to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon once a year. It was such a shock when he passed. Your Daddy and I miss him very much.

In 2005, your grandparents, your Daddy and I, and your Great-Grandmother made an RV trip to see what he loved so much about the North Rim. It was so beautiful and I finally understood why he always felt at peace there. This is where this picture was taken. It was also during that same trip! This photo shows how close mother and son were. It looks as though they are looking down on us.

I never want you to forget who they were and how much they meant to your Daddy and me. They would have been so happy to see you come into this world. It’s comforting to know that they are looking down on you every day and that they love you very much. I still believe that they sent you to us. Your Daddy and I lost two very special people but we gained a precious baby boy! And I wouldn’t trade that for anything!

I love you Rowdy!

Love,
Mommy

There is a pullout tag on the right behind the photo that reads, "Great Grandma Sue & Grandpa Van - photo taken 6/05. Great Grandma passed 8/805. Grandpa passed 1/22/06..........Forever Loved (heart)"
