Your point 5...WOW.....that is profound. You have hugs & kudos from me for working through & putting that onto paper...."a healthier version of her...to carry on her legacy" (I need to pass that onto somebody as words from a very wise person). Your layout is full of meaning & truly beautiful.
Wow, you really dug deep into this one!! your journaling is lovely and heartfelt, and very well written! your page is so pretty too, the bright cheerful colour give the whole thing such an optamistic feel!!
Here, here on living in the present. Oh Amy...this is so powerful I don't even know where to start and I don't want to belittle the journaling by commenting on the page (which by the way is lovely). What an amazing page for your BOM! So insightful for a science geek (hey, you said you have a sense of humor now). Awesome and inspiring!
Do Yourself Justice challenge Journaling: With age comes wisdom. These are some of the things I’ve learned about myself and the fundamental reasons why I am who I am today.
1. I have a loving husband, who is supportive of all of my endeavors. He may not always understand them (like why I love to scrap so much), but he’s always supportive.
2. My daughters love me very much and are always interested in what I do. They are my biggest fans. I am their biggest fans. They are truly my life. I didn’t know it was possible to love so deeply until I had them.
3. I am very strong. At my most fragile times, I have mustered up the will to survive when I didn’t think that survival was possible. I am a fighter.
4. I have taken on an adult role. Things got so much easier when I stopped feeling like a little girl while interacting with my father. I truly believe that my father respects me more since I’ve started seeing myself as an adult.
5. I have accepted my mother’s suicide, two decades after it happened. I was only 16 when she died. With lots of help from others, I’ve allowed myself to feel the various stages of grief. I’ve lived through a sense of relief. I’ve lived through anger. I am now empathetic. I have been where she’s been; I’ve felt her despair. I no longer blame her. I am proud to be her daughter…to be a healthier version of her…to carry on her legacy.
6. It’s OK to feel closer to your friends than you do to the people you grew up with. You pick your friends; you do not choose your family. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love my family. They just don’t understand me the way that my friends do.
7. I have a lot of drive. Sometimes it gets the best of me. I want to believe that I can do anything that I set out to do. I strived for and achieved great results in undergraduate and graduate school. I’m starting to realize my dreams in the scrapbooking industry. I set my sights high.
8. I am an intelligent person. I truly count my blessings that things come pretty easy to me. It’s a gift that I treasure and appreciate.
9. I have a better sense of humor as I age. Everyone needs to laugh. It’s very therapeutic. I can even laugh at myself now.
10. I am very appreciative of the good things in life. I am learning to slow down a bit and savor the moments. I’ve spent too many years dwelling on the past and looking forward to the future. I’m getting better at living in the present.
