Journaling: During the year we lived there, we discovered so many gorgeous places in South Carolina. Being from the Pacific Northwest we felt like such tourists – gawking at the alligators, delighting in wading in the Atlantic Ocean, and being awestruck by the towering palm trees. The southeast part of the state is known as the Lowcountry. The residents of this area are quite proud of their state flag, their swamps, and their traditional food... and they should be! The swamps we visited were well preserved – definitely changed our preconceived notions of what a swamp could be. Oh the food! I still miss the food of the Lowcountry – hush puppies, she crab soup, shrimp & grits, and so much more!
