Just a page to kind of recap our time living out here, the journaling reads: As we get closer to moving back to FL, Daddy and I have been pondering some things, and we keep coming back to the same question: Isn’t it weird that we have only lived in NV a year? It will feel like we never even lived here because it will be such a brief time in our lives. So, I wanted to put some thoughts about living here down on paper, so you will someday realize the significance of this past year.
We moved out here for Daddy’s job, more job opportunities for me, and for the simple reason that we wanted an adventure. That was a very important reason to me, I lived in the FL panhandle for my whole life, and I wanted to see things. The farthest west I had been was Louisiana, and I knew if we moved out here, we could explore some of the West coast. We also didn’t want to NOT move, and then ask ourselves what if we would have moved, how would our lives be different? So at least we came out here, tried it for a year, and decided this wasn’t the best place to raise you, and that we were truly FL beach people at heart.
The condo we stayed in was not the fanciest of places, but it will hold a special place in my heart because of the many milestones you accomplished while living here. You had your first birthday party here, your Grandma P., Great Grandma Ann, Great Aunt Lynn, Great Uncle Romie, Great Uncle Steven, and 2nd cousin Brianna were all here to watch you smash cake all over yourself and to help us celebrate that very special day. You started taking those first wobbly steps here, holding on to the coffee table, letting go, and taking a few steps before you fell on your bottom. It took only a couple weeks before you mastered walking. You learned so much while living here, so many words, letters, numbers, colors; you are a whole different kid from when we first moved! You also got to experience snow for the first time here, which is something we never would have thought when we were moving here! I will miss when we walk outside and you tell me what you see: pool, sky, airplane, tree, sun, and moon. Sometimes you give us the weather report and tell us if it’s cold or windy. It also struck me last night that this is what you call home. When we say we are going home, this is what you think of. Now there will be a new place that is home, and I’m sure you will love it and get used to it very quickly, but it makes me kind of sad to think that your concept of home, right now, is going to be gone.
We did get to explore a little while we were out here, we took you to Orange County in California to the beach, which you loved. We also took you to San Diego, CA, where we went to the beach again (and you sure did cry when we left, so we know we are making the right decision to move back to the beach!), and to the San Diego Zoo, where you loved the turtles, hippos, and the elephants! So we didn’t explore as much as we wanted to, but at least we all got to see the Pacific Ocean, and experience some of the cultural differences from the West coast and the South!
We actually didn’t feel too isolated out here because Grandma P. and most of her family lives out here, so we got to see them. Aunt Brynne and Danny came out here a month after we moved, and we went to see Hoover Dam with them. Stuart from England came to visit, and we even got to meet his parents while they vacationed in Las Vegas. Daddy’s poker friend, Mike, came out with his wife, and we met them. Papa came out to visit a couple of times, once with Mimi and Sydney; and Aunt Ashley also came to visit twice. Mommy’s friend Traci was in town for a convention, so we met her and Daddy’s friend Rocky came out a couple times.
We will miss some things about our neighborhood. We lived close to the District, and it was nice taking you there. We will also miss Discovery Park, you loved that park so much, and I will always remember the fun times there! We will miss Lucille’s BBQ, you loved the biscuits, and we will miss Cheesecake Factory, we frequented that place A LOT! I will also miss the Starbucks we went to a lot, because you always ran up to the picture of the elephant in there and got so excited to see it!
I am glad we are making the move back to FL, we know it’s the best decision for our family, but just know that this time out here was very special, and that we don’t regret moving here at all. I am so glad we tried it and wonder what will be in store for all of us, as we move to the next chapter.
