What a great memory to scrap. And I love the urban feel to this page despite the journaling about moving to such a "country" locale. Nice play on words, for lack of a better turn of phrase. Very cool.
Sharon, you know I'm a big fan of your collaging style, but let me reiterate how freaking cool it is! I love your use of mixed media and how you create your own additions, like coloring a block of vellum and scrawling a black border, then placing it over the car rental piece. At the risk of sounding like a copycat, I also love the classifieds vellum (it's perfect for your subject!), the journaling and how some words are underlined, the ascending title, the fibrous cream paper, the inking and torn edges laid over black cs, the crumpled map, the screws, and that awesome embossed copper N (which you must teach us about)! The roses I don't dig, though. Sorry. I would like to see a little more copper somewhere in the form of a piece of mesh. Too bad the screws weren't copper. I'd love to learn more about why you didn't end up in Nashville. This lo has such a gritty New York feel to it, that it's no wonder you ended up there, instead. I'm adding this to my faves and will have to scraplift.
Wow, there is so much to this LO i love. First, the N. definitely a cool effect. Then, the newspaper.. which i didn't noticed until I zoomed in.. but looks totally cool. The map, which just fits perfect. The memorablia of the rental car place. Just everything. I'm really not sure about the roses.. idk just how they fit completely in with it. But you totally rocked this LO
DANG, this is cool! I didn't even see the vellum classifieds until I read the comment & then zoomed in...yup, too cool! Seriously, I only know how to pull off this kind of thing digitally so, please, pretty please, share techniques & I promise to try to share digi ones in exchange ;-)
Sharon, c'mere lemme kiss you. I think this is my favorite of yours, thus far. There are so many layers to this that I dig, literally. Let me start with the obvious, the map is perfect. What a great way to include some ephemera (for example, the rental car tab) and help convey a morsel of your past. Of course, your N rocks. Please share your technique with us. The roses are such a surprise. I wouldn't have thought to include them, but they are perfect! Also share how you did the edge between the roses and the black cardstock. Love that effect! Ok, the vellum classifieds are unbelievably genius with this LO, especially as the mat for the journaling. I love this, everything about it.
I did this one a while ago but I always liked my dry-embossed "N" so I decided to share this. This is the 1st page of a series of LOs re: a 7/04 trip to Nashville. We were seriously thinking of moving here before we moved back to NYC. Journaling: "Greg & I had always talked about moving away eventually. I had moved into his White Plains place in 2003 and while it was home, we wanted to move away to some place that we chose together. We checked out Baltimore, didn’t like it enough. Thought about Austin, but no way could Greg tolerate Texas summers. Then we thought - NASHVILLE, TN. Perfect climate - seasons, but not too extreme. An appealing landscape & topography of hills & lakes. The only city (outside of LA and NYC) with a thriving music industry for me to work in, plus I already had a music legal contact there. A cosmopolitan town with a low cost of living. People on message boards had plenty of positive things to say about living in Nashville. We were psyched about a possible future in Nashville. So for the Fourth of July 2004 weekend, we decided to visit our promising future home."
