This is my journal page-left side-with the explanation of my crowning glory. Photo tag is of one of my pieces of art work-a gourd woman-. I printed the journaling on transparency and mounted it on top of a painted "pot" form on the pp. the journaling is quite long but here goes:
When I asked my husband-whom I have been with longer than any other person on this planet-what he considered to be my CROWNING GLORY--his answer matched mine; our children and my GOURD WOMEN. I know Keri asked that we not use our children for the answer to her challenge, so I will choose the GOURD WOMEN. I started producing these women as an art form in 1994 after attending a three hour workshop on making gourd bowls. i think the large pear shape is evocative of women in the purest form--wide hips and narrow shoulders. As I worked on the gourds I thought of stories about women that pertained to their different issues and personalities and I created a character for each story that I wrote. There are seventeen stories and hundreds of GOURD WOMEN were sold through five galleries across the US (they are no longer available in any galleries--i got burnt out after more than ten years of production). wherever these GOURD WOMEN are there remains a thread of connectivity to me..my hands, my heart and my thoughts. So to the question of what is my CROWNING GLORY...what will people remember me for and what message do I want to leave..I answer "It is the GOURD WOMEN and I want to share the story of POTTERY WOMAN..a story that I feel may be pertinent to each of us."
