This page is a tribute to my mother who died of ALS 15 years ago. If you look closely, you can see the "double use" of the letters ALS. Journaling reads: " If you don’t know what ALS is, offer a prayer of thanksgiving.
ALS is a death sentence – no known cause, no treatment, no cure – just a gradual loss of all independence, all control, all voluntary movement.
Watching my proud, independent mother gradually lose that independence and have to rely on others for even the simplest of tasks was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Her life was difficult in many ways, but this was a terrible ordeal by any standard.
My mother was only fifty-five years old when she died, much too young. I still miss her, and I will always be grateful to her for helping me become the woman I am today."
