Another dreaded photo shoot. I expected the worst, but hoped to get at least one good picture of the boys all dressed up and looking oh so sweet. It was going surprisingly well, Connor was totally playing up to the camera and helping me get some really good shots of Jackson. He was my ultimate helper. After shooting 3 rolls of film, it began. Jackson had had it and wanted nothing to do with “Smile! Say Cheese!” He didn’t want that stupid silver spoon anymore, he didn’t want Connor anywhere near him. He started screaming and crawling off the backdrop. I was about at my wits end trying to finish the last roll of film. I continued to shoot while trying to soothe and coax, but was getting grumpy, feeding off Jackson’s tantrum and unwillingness to sit for just a few more shots. But there in the center of all the chaos was Connor. Coaxing, calming and reassuring Jackson. Jackson responded immediately and sat for just a few more shots. I finished the roll and learned two valuable lessons that day. Lesson one was that photo shoots for little ones shouldn’t last very long and the last few shots on the roll aren’t worth spit when it comes to fending off a meltdown. Lesson two was that even when things seem at their worst, there is always someone who keeps their head and tries to make good of a bad situation. Someone who endures and makes it better for all of us. Jackson taught me the first lesson and Connor the second. Thank you boys for letting me learn from you every day. You are my sweetie boys. Many times it seems my role as teacher becomes that of student. I hope I do you proud. Love, Mommy
