Kings Island according to Lori---

Amy came to visit us. We stayed up late the night before telling funny stories. Amy suggested that I put a recipe for half an English trifle and half a shepherd’s pie in Kim’s shower gift. The next morning Kevin got up and dropped Mom off to get her van worked on and I took a shower; then woke Amy up, making sure not to get to close so that she wouldn’t punch me in the stomach. We got all of our “gear” together and put it in Amy’s wonderful backpack of preparation. Moist towelette anyone? We had every kind of analgesic you could imagine in there. We stopped and picked Ian up and we were on our way. Kevin and Ian talked up front, while Amy and I had our own conversation in the back. Then the time came and we were at Kings Island. We were afraid that we would have a horrible time, because the weather was not cooperating. Predictions of scattered showers and 90% humidity were hanging over our heads.

Amy and I ran to the bathroom using the free tickets that Jan gave Kevin while Kevin paid for a ticket and Ian got one free. Thanks Kroger. Where to go? What to do? We (we meaning Kevin) decided that we would ride the Beast first, that way if it started raining, since it was sprinkling at the time, we would have at least rode a couple of big roller coasters. We walked swiftly to the Beast, only waited for one cycle and we were on our way. We rode 3 times, because we didn’t have to get off. There was no line, it was cool, and it had stopped sprinkling. Then Ian wanted to ride the blue coaster. He and I were getting tired of the Beast and he had the ride memorized. (right turn, right turn, stop, hill, etc.)

Kevin’s TOP 3 List
1. Delirium
2. Ice Cream
3. Beast

Then we rode the Vortex. Kevin and Amy went for the front car and we rode in the middle on the train before them. It was a blast and I couldn’t wait to ride it again. Ian kept chanting, Blue is bad, bad blue, no more blue. Ian and my picture looked great. Ian’s face was all scrunched up and his eyes were closed. We all rode it again, in the back this time and then our brains started swelling so we moved on. I didn’t realize that my head could take that much trauma. That is when we all brought out the (insert pain medication of your choice here.) Amy wanted to give her swelling a rest so we moved on to SpongeBob 3D. That pickle was in my face man. In my face. After SpongeBob, everyone was getting pretty hungry, but Kevin wanted to ride all of the big rides before lunch because vomit is gross. So we pressed on.

We made our way towards the Action Zone. Since I was still in a roller coaster mood, we went for the Son of Beast. A more fantastic time could not have been had by all, except for the encephalitis and the bruising, but there were absolutely no lines. We did however contemplate the coincidence that we were riding the Son of Beast and the song How Far is Heaven was playing. It was cool, overcast, humid but not oppressive. Funny though, Amy and I seemed to be trading off our hot/cold flashes. We rode the heck out of that SOB. At first, Ian didn’t fit into the cart. He had to fold himself up like a pretzel to ride and then he said that his kneecaps were bleeding. We were a little skeptical of a ride with a loop that had no shoulder restraints, but Ian said that even if his leg restraint fell off, he wasn’t going anywhere. Ian kept making SpaceBalls jokes (my brains are going into my feet, and we can’t stop, we have to slow down first.) I couldn’t stop laughing, except for the times that I couldn’t inhale due to the G force compressing my lungs. That ride goes 78 mph, man. Amy got off with enormous bruises on her arms. I wanted to ride again, no one else concurred.

Next we rode Top Gun. The ride actually reminded me of Tom Cruise a little. It was very short and all hype. Next Kevin, Amy, and Ian rode Drop Zone while I sat out taking pictures of them. Amy got off the ride crying, so I was kind of glad I sat that one out. Amy said it was the most horrible ride ever. Little did she know the next ride would be the most horrible ever, but Kevin’s favorite: Delirium. Then we went into the Fest Haus for some grub. Ian bought a brownie of which we all shared. And some pizza for $14. Amy $11. Then we discussed such topics as Ian’s fancy pants high school with great cafeteria, the movie Bedazzled (mayo-mayo-naise), and the frequency with which the frosty machine was cleaned at FSHS.

Lori’s TOP 3 List
1. Adventure Express
2. Son of Beast
3. Car ride home

“Onward ever forward”, that’s Kevin’s motto. Actually, “Where’s the ice cream?” THAT’s Kevin’s motto. On our journey to Hanna-Barbera Land we stopped into Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle, scores: Kevin - 1350, Ian – 1250, Lori – 780, Amy – 560. Then we stopped and had our pictures taken in the Mystery Machine. I then questioned where Scooby was and he suddenly appeared. We had our pictures taken with Scooby, but they didn’t turn out. Kevin finally got his ice cream and we were given a tour of the land by Ian. (“This land was established in 1974 after a man named Hanna Barbera. He was beaten up a lot as a child.”) We bought smashed pennies from Kings Island and looked around the gift shop trying on crazy giant cowboy hats. We came upon a ride called Tomb Raider. None of us had been on this ride before. But since we had just eaten lunch we decided to ride tame rides. So why were we getting on a ride with a thrill rating of 4 where we could possibly get wet? I don’t know. We walked into the ride and Ian said it was way too dark and that he couldn’t go in. No one else would go so I braved the trek, Kevin grabbed onto me and we set off. Then Ian followed with Amy reaching out for him saying, “Wait for me!” We came to the T.V. set and thought this is the ride, this is so lame. Then the doors opened, and they took Amy’s bag. We climbed in and held on. I couldn’t see over the shoulder harness, so I was talking to Amy under the harness. “Why are we riding this? What are we doing?” The ride started and we swung back and forth and then went up a story. Not bad. Then we went up again. Not bad. Then we did a 360 and kept spinning around in the dark. It was a lot of fun. I felt a little uncomfortable that I shifted in my harness a foot and a half every time that we did a 360, but that’s okay. It was cool, and dark, if it hadn’t been for being held over the molten lava on a full stomach for an extended period, it would have been the perfect ride.

We made our way back into the Coney Mall section of the park. Amy and Kevin rode the Beast again, Ian and I went into the Arcade and played games where I was killed by zombies almost immediately. Then we all rode the racers. Since there was only one roller coaster left that we hadn’t ridden we made our way over to Face/Off. Along the way we stopped at the Adventure Express. It was a smooth ride, we loved it. We rode it 2 more times. Amy and I had fun pointing and screaming at the skeleton. Then Kevin stopped and rode Delirium again. Only Ian was brave enough to follow him. Amy and I thought that he had chickened out, but we realized he had been pulled out of line because he was too tall. They checked his height and said that there was a 90% chance that his legs would hit a pole and a possibility that his harness wouldn’t fit right. “But, I have already ridden it today.” “Whoa, yeah man, you shouldn’t have done that.” So Ian got kicked of a ride, we walked towards Face/Off and the crowd told us it was closed because some people were stuck. We looked up to see the ride controller talking to the passengers as they were stuck on the high point of the ride (does anyone need a beverage?). Needless to say, we skipped that one. Kevin rode Drop Zone while the others got ice cream. Kevin got another ice cream and we walked back through the park. We decided to look out over the park from the Eiffel Tower.

Amy and Ian’s TOP 1 List
1. Chad

That is where we met him. He was a third scale model of a French man, and his name was Chad. Oh Chad, how we miss you. We then went back to Tomb Raider, but it was closed. Ah, shucks. Kevin rode the Vortex for the Third time and we decided to make our way back to the car. Wanting to feel that last bit of wind in my hair, Kevin and I rode the Scrambler, while Amy and Ian looked onward with tired faces. We shopped a little, bought Kevin a shirt from his favorite ride. Looked for my badge thingy and finally ended our perfect day at Kings Island where it began, the bathroom. While outside the bathroom a nice older gentleman came by the bench and talked to Ian. (Why do people always talk to me?) Then we drove home, stopping at Steak and Shake for supper.

Steak and Shake was a rip-roaring good time. I can’t remember exactly what we talked about. It was funny though. I remember something about a 12 year old boy staring at Amy and Ian for doing the Walk like an Egyptian dance. (“I feel so embarrassed for you.”) Then we rode home and sang songs in the car the whole way. Everything from hip-hop, country, and heavy metal to our favorite TV theme songs. We dropped off Ian. Giving Amy a tour of the mansion, and then got Amy a Caramel Macchiato Venti to keep her awake on her drive home. We were worried about her, but she made it ok. It was a great day. There is also some kind of footlong story in there somewhere. I’ll let you figure out where that story fits in.
