I wanted to document the sweetest conversation I had with my son 7 years ago. I didn't have pictures from the doctor's office, but I did have some old pictures from that time that I felt reflect the sentiment of the layout.

Added some machine stitching that I thought resembled ECG strips!

Journaling reads:
You were just in first grade and I let you stay home that day with a case of the sniffles. But I needed to go for an echocardiogram that day . . . I needed to have my heart tested and so you came along . . .

I explained to you that I was having a picture taken of my heart and the technician allowed you to come into the procedure room with me.

The technician pointed out my beating heart to you on the screen and you looked confused.

“But Mommy, where’s your other heart?”
“What other heart? I only have one heart, Matty.”
“No, you have TWO hearts! Where’s the other one?”
“I only have one heart . . . really!”
“But if you love me with all you heart, and John with all your heart, you need TWO hearts!”

The technician gave a glance and a sentimental sigh. “She must be a mother, too”, I thought.

“Matty, a mother’s heart doesn’t work that way. There’s enough love in one mother’s heart for all her children!”

“Really? But, one heart plus one heart equals two hearts.”

“A mother’s heart does not follow math rules, Matty! I can love both of you with all my heart. With my ONE whole heart!”

That day, I learned my heart was just fine, in more ways than one.

And you, Matthew, learned a little bit about the workings of a mother’s heart.
