This is my journaling:

My Experience Having A Baby For The First Time!

This is my story about my first child.

It was July 1991 & we had just moved to Arizona. I had just graduated High School in June. My dad got transferred for work and I wanted to get away from California. My boyfriend Sean of 2 1/2 years moved with us. Things between us were ok. Mom & Dad were ok too. Then I started feeling down and wanted someone who would love me & that I could love back the way it should be. So I decided I wanted to have a baby. Well Sean agreed and we tried for about a month and poof I was pregnant.

For the first time in my life I had something that I really wanted and that meant the world to me. I was so scared every time I would think of the delivery. After hearing all those Horror stories, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I knew was that my mom had all of us fast with no drugs. So I thought hey I can do this without having any kind of drugs for pain. Well only time will tell.

It was hard in the begging. Morning sickness all day, for the first month or so. The smell of food made my stomach hurt. The worst part was we lived with my parents and our room was right across from the kitchen. My dad was a fabulous cook. At the time my mother & I had ups and downs. I tried so hard to make things work between us. She was upset because we weren’t married and we didn’t have our own place to live. It took a long time for her to get use to it. I use to sit and cry all day because she wasn’t happy for me. Mom was going through some health changes in her life and I know that it’s what caused her moodiness.

When we went for the first ultrasound to see how far along I was, I nearly cried. Just seeing this little baby was so heart warming. When we got home and showed my parents the pictures, my dad said, “Oh it looks like a little sweet potato.” So that was the nickname he gave it. We went to have another ultrasound to see what the sex of the baby was. They said they couldn’t tell.

As time went on and the baby started to grow, I started loving it even more. The first time I felt my baby kick, it felt like a little fish fluttering in my tummy. I was so excited. The whole 9 months we thought we were having a boy. My nurse knew what it was by the heartbeat but she would just smile when I told her I thought it was a boy. So we got use to the fact that we were probably having a boy. We had the names picked out for both. Boy would’ve been Travis Alan and Girl would’ve been Bayleigh Reeanne.

I thought I would still do the bedding in a neutral pattern just incase it was a girl. All along a lot of people told me they thought I was having a boy. I can’t remember anyone that said a girl. One time we walked into Dunkin Donuts and the girl behind the counter asked me if my tummy was real. I just kind of looked at her weird and said “Well yes, do you think I would walk around with a basketball in my shirt?” You could tell she had no clue.

It was now April 28, 1992. I started having contractions around 4:30am. They were about 1 1/2 minutes apart. So I started getting a little scared. I always heard they would be speratic. Well, not mine. One right after the other. So Sean got up and got ready to go. I called the hospital and told the nurse. She said I should wait awhile cause first babies usually last 12+ hours. I told her she didn’t understand what I was saying. My contractions were now 1 minute apart & I was coming in. She said ok but they may send me home. At this point I was starting to get scared. So as we were leaving, dad was leaving for work. I told him Sean wouldn’t be in today we were on our way to the hospital. So we left. Can you believe we even stopped for gas? Thank God the hospital was only down the street. When we got there they asked me if I wanted something to relax me. I had no idea what was going on. So I said ok, since I was so tired. However I did refuse an epidural. So they gave me Demerol. It pretty much made me sleep in between contractions and slowed them down to 5 minutes. 3 hours later, I remember saying, “Get the doctor, the baby is coming.” So I had 10 people in my room. 2 neonatal doctors, 2 nurses, 2 students, my doctor, Sean, my Mom & me. At that point I didn’t care. When they said neonatal had to be there because the baby had pooped in the sack. I really got nervous. SO I pushed 3 times and out the baby came. The doctor held it up and said, “It’s a Girl” I was shocked. I said, “It’s a What?” Everyone started laughing. I was so happy it was a girl. So here I had my Bayleigh Reeanne.

Have you all know it took a day or so to grasp the fact that she was a girl and not a boy. She was the most beautiful baby ever. By the time she was 14 days old. Yup, she was sleeping through the night.

That’s my story about my first pregnancy. It was the best experience I had had in my life!
