Yikes, the injury looks intense and so was your journalistic (funny thought). At least you didn't lose your thumb...can you imagine trying to explain that one...
OMG OUCH! I'm glad you have such a great sense of humor about this situation. I felt your pain (freezing doesn't work for me either) but I laughed so much. Thanks so much for sharing and I can't wait to see the lo!!
OMG!! I laughed so hard...sorry, I know it must have been terribly painful but your story telling had me in 'stitches' heehee.. I have injured myself quite often while scrapping..I tend to be on the klutzy side but I have never required medical attention..I think the most painful thing I've done is hit myself under my eye with my crop-o-dile and give myself a shiner. Thanks for posting this amusing warning... hope your thumb has healed!
wow, what a story, the perils of scrapbooking were hidden until now. Thank you for such an enlightening and humerous story. OK so it is one of those funny, long, long after it happens type of funny stories, but my boyfriend and I really appreciated your post. I too have injured myself scrapbooking, although not to the same extent as you. You do lovely work by the way, youre an inspiration to us mear mortals with two functioning thumbs. :)
Unbelievable to cause so much injury SCRAPBOOKING!! I always thought this was a safe friendly thing to do. The worst i have done is stuck my finger and thumb together!!
OMG!!! I know it's been said before, but, that is the only thing that comes to mind. I for sure will not be taking my thumbs forgranted. In the middle of reading your story, I wanted to cry, but, kissed my thumbs instead. Another word that has to be said again.... OUCH!
God bless you girl. Take care.
I know this was not fun!!!! but I had to at least snicker. I can't imagine not having a thumb to use. So hope you are getting back to normal. Bet you won't do that again soon.
I feel for you. I too recently injured myself. I didn't do it scrapping, even though it is affecting my scrapping altogether. I broke the middle knuckle of my middle finger on my right (dominant) hand. Isn't amazing how we take these small parts of our bodies for granted? I have had the most frustrating time and know there is many more days of it. I hope you heal quickly and get back to the scrapping soon.
OMG!!! This pic is a great diet plan because not only do I feel like I'm gonna ralph but I never want to eat again!
Seriously, though, I'm sorry for your pain but glad that everything is ok. Please, from now on, scrapceed with caution.
Really Big Owie! I feel for you! I did something similar with scissors (cutting paper) and cut right through the paper and skin between thumb and pointer finger...and all I could think to do was get that pretty paper out of the way--lol--too pretty to mess up...yep, I got 5 stitches for that little snippet. So while you are healing, we will anxiously await the lo you create for this snippet (no pun intended) of your life.
Oh My Gosh! OWWWWW! I think I will put my supplies in lock down so they don't attack me too. Bless your heart, I hope you heal quickly. You are right...we don't know how much we use something until we can't. Take care!
This looks like the cover of the "saw" movies LOL! Oh girl, the pain you must've been in! And I know about the anaesthetic not kicking in as "far" as they would think. I had a cyst removed last year and the right side wasn't sedated. I was too scared/nervous to tell them about it, so I just bit my lip as they were sowing it back up. I held up strong untill the "recovery room", then I just burst out in tears "whaa, the wound wasn't sedated properly" LOL I hope your body learns to accept that this left thumb of yours isn't going anywhere! (and if you would happen to loose it, they attach your big toe to your hand to operate as a thumb)
OMG! I'm reading this and feeling really sorry for you - and thinking maybe you better pass that Motrin! I have a low tolerance for blood and pain (would have made a terrible nurse!) and having trouble reading your story, but wanted to find out how things turned out! Hope you are doing better now. Glad you are able to laugh at it a little bit. Be careful!
Oh my goodness, I was reading this and felt so terrible for you... how horrible to have such a terrible mishap while scrapping. I just gringe looking at the pictures of your poor thumb and those stitches... then I happened to glance down to the "Products Used" part and I started to laugh hysterically. I can't believe you listed the knife!!! That was cute! Seriously, I hope you start feeling better!
OH my gosh...I'm so happy I ran across this. I am not the only one with a scrapbook injury (check out my blog). I'm so sorry about your thumb....I can only imagine how much pain you were in. I hope you are healing quickly! Take Care! :hugs:
OMG!!! If that happened to me, I swear I would pass out and then have to be heavily sedated the second I came round again. You may not feel it but it sounds like you were really brave, I'm serious, I could not have dealt with that at all! I'm glad you're able to laugh about it and I really hope you're feeling better soon. x
Oh my goodnes. Bless your heart. what an ordeal you have just gone through. The injury was terrible enough, without having the issues with the painkiller on top of that. This is sure a reminder to me of how important our thumbs and fingers are. We do take them for granted and forget how difficult is can be to do the most simple little things when in pain. Glad that you survived and appreciate that you shared with us. Take care!
Oh you poor thing. I know another girl on this site who needed 15 staples in her thigh after her craft knife slipped. You poor thing. I had 17 stitches once and they gave me shots directly in the wound first thing.
Felt like I was going to toss my cookies just reading this!!! And those doctors...I would've asked for someone else or went somewhere else! So glad that part is over though (and it's not even me!) Hope you are recovering well and feeling much better.
OUCH!! I did the same thing last year with a steak knife! It hurt so bad and I waited for 3 hrs in the ER, by the time they came to sew me up the injection wore off too. I was screaming!! But reading this I don't feel so bad! Hope it's all healed by now. Oh mine stayed numb for a few months afterwards so won't worry if yours is!
OH MY GRAVY as Rachel Ray would say! Holy S%%% as I would say! Good god, I feel so bad, I don't know how you didn't kick the doc! Hope your feeling better! You need to make a lo for this! This is going into Scrapping Hall of Fame for taking one for a layout! lol
OUCH, I Hope you heal quickly. Reading this I almost passed out. Not good for a Nursing stundent. I'm feeling a wierd tingly pain likefeeling all over, I know I'm weird
oh my goodness!!! I would have told my man..screw the towels!! I would have drove myself..lol. eek.. i hope something like that never happens to me! I hope its getting better! Much love!!
Ooo! Just looking at that made me hurt. You poor thing!! I hope it heals soon!!
BTW I like your sense of humor through it all.... "when scrap supplies attack"... Yikes!
I'm so sorry. Isn't it something how everything turns into a scrapping moment? In fact your situation is ironic. A scrap moment from a scrap moment. Hope you are healing well. I like your insight into, the thumb. Quite good.
OMG you poor honey! I've done things like this with razors, scissors etc., but never had stitches....my lord! What is pretty funny is that you listed the sb.com product in the section....that's pretty dang funny! Hope you feel better now!
Oh my gosh- I'm so sorry you had to go through all that! That's awful! Hope you're feeling better now- they need to make some sort of protective gloves we can wear when scrapping!
So this past week has been interesting. Last Tuesday night I got injured scrapbooking, yes, SCRAPBOOKING! I never thought of scrapping as a dangerous hobby until now that is! Here's what happened... I sat down like I do almost every night to scrap. I laid out 4 layouts that I just knew were going to be good. You guys know what I mean...that feeling you get before you do a great layout. Anyway's I start on my first layout and all is going well. I decide this layout definitely needs something....hmmm....oh I know! It needs a star! So I go to get these stars I got at walmart. They are wooden and I split them in half to make two of them. The way the star is made it is two pieces of really thin wood glued on top of one another. So I go to split them using a razor just like I have done several times before. I do all the points of the stars first to "loosen" the glue up. I am having some problems with one of the points so I gripe it really tight in between my thumb and first finger on my left hand and apply all the strength in my right hand with the razor. This was obviously too much for the wood to handle be cause it snaps causing the blade to slice though my thumb, yes right through it! Not panicking yet I feel a warn sensation come over my thumb. I very quickly realize that this is not a small cut. I wake up Jess who is napping on the couch telling him I cut my hand pretty bad and I think I needed to go to the ER. He goes to the kitchen to get some papertowels and by this time the blood is gushing from my thumb. He sees that and rushed me to the restroom to get a washcloth to cover my mutilated thumb. We wait a few seconds and try to take a peak to see how bad the damage is. This only angers the wound causing more blood to gush from it. By this time the pain is setting in (seeing the inside of my thumb didn't help) so I start to panic. Jess runs to get my shoes and off to the ER we go. We get there and the take me back right away. Jess has to fill out some paperwork so I am alone with the Dr's who are not helping my panicking any. They see the cut and start to say stuff like oh man that's deep. Before long my arm is laying in a pool of my own blood. The pain is so intense at this point so I am pretty hysteric. The Dr keeps telling me to take some deep breaths and remain calm. ummm...are you kidding me? My arm in literally in a pool of my blood! To make matter worse my Dr looks like a 12 year old! Paging Dr Doogie Houser. She gives me a motrin, I am thinking are you serious?? MOTRIN?? What is that going to do? They decide to numb it so they can get an xray to see exactly what damage I have caused. They numbed in between my first finger and my thumb and then on the outside of my thumb around the knuckle. I go get my xray and I managed to not hit my bone some how so they are going to stitch me up now. Big mistake! I don't injure myself often and I had no idea that my family has a very high tolerance to lidocaine and things of that nature. So around the site of the injection was numb but the cut was not. She starts to stitch and I freak out and scream. I felt everything! It was so horrible. So they give me two more shots around the same areas of the last. We wait a few minutes and try again. She does a few stitches and is working her way up and she gets a spot where it's not numb again. She just could not believe I was feeling pain and did another. At this point I am ready to suture her hand to her face! So they try another approach and gave me a shot directly in my wound. Still feeling some pain I bit down on my lip and let her finish. The stitching through the nail is what got me the most. i ended up with 15 stitches total! So most of the next few days are a blur. I was so messed up on pain med's I was sleeping around 17 hours a day. Between that and the antibiotics (which I have to take 4 times a day!!) I was feeling pretty bad. I was throwing up off and on Friday because of them. What a mess I have been. I have not been able to do much on my own. Well at first I could not. I did not realize how much I used my thumb and the muscles attached to it. I struggle to button my pants, hook my bra and open things. I also can not submerge my thumb so washing my hair, bathing and even washing my hands is pretty challenging. I am so mad at myself for being so careless but all I can do is laugh about it. I mean who hurts themselves scrapping? THIS GAL THAT'S WHO!!! I am sure this happened for a reason. I have to say I have developed a new appreciation of my thumb though. I think most of us may take it for granted. lol, maybe I am the person who is suppose to write a thumb appreciation book? OR Maybe my body does not want this left thumb and it's rejecting it. I nearly cut this thumb off in metal shop in 7th grade. Maybe my body will just go to any means necessary to get ride of it? Touche body, but you will have to try a lot harder then that.....
A LO will for sure be done. I am trying to think of a funny way to do one. lol....maybe one of my scrapbook supplies attacking me?? I am watching my back for sure....
