Poor kid!! What a long wait to get his drivers license!! I love the arrows and the tire tracks!! The little car with a quitar in the back is so funny! Nice touch!
Journaling reads: A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single test….. Unless your Josh of course. I am very proud of his patience and perseverance! This journey began when he was a junior. He was in the middle of Drivers Ed when he ended up in the hospital for a week. They kicked him out of drivers ed. NO EXCEPTIONS ! They told him. IT’S THE LAW. $100 non refundable. Jump ahead. He and Cody enrolled in driving school. $180 fee. They did awesome getting up, and sometimes taking the bus really early in the morning. Never missing a class and doing all the assignments. When the opportunity finally came, he dragged me (2 weeks post hysterectomy) for a 4 hour long wait and another $25 to the DMV. Well darn if he didn’t pass the written test. Missed it by 3. Mom say; “Study, study, study”. Josh say; “I don’t need too”. Maybe Mom does know best. So a very disappointed Josh went back a few weeks later and retook and passed the test. After that he began counting down the days to his 18th birthday so he could get the actual drivers license instead of the learners permit. The night before his birthday he had gone to a friends house and since no one would give him a ride home he walked about 3 miles in the middle of the night. (Mom not happy about it). Got up bright and early and again drove to the DMV. Another 4 hour wait, only to be told that regardless of the fact that everyone else had gotten their’s at 18 he would have to wait the required 6 months of “learners permit driving”. A very unhappy, frustrated Josh called me and I called 5 different people. Finally ended up talking to Wallie, a very rude supervisor at the local DMV. He told me; “Six months, it’s the law !” Then hung up on me. Silly since Josh only had two weeks left. Finally I talked to the manager and he explained that it has since changed to a year and that it had caused a lot of confusion for these kids stuck in the loop holes. (State Law guidelines found behind page) Its almost too silly to believe an 18 year old adult is required to have a responsible adult in the car while they drive. Bt they are supposed to be responsible adults at 18. So after the two weeks and another $25, Josh proudly received his drivers license. Hopefully soon he’ll get a job and help me pay the $109 a month in insurance as well as his cell phone bill. Welcome to the world. Sometimes it’s an uphill battle ! WAY TO GO JOSH ! I am very proud.
Lucky 7 #2 My son and the journey he embarked on while trying to obtrain his drivers. (I used little scraps of paper to cover up his personal information thats why the drivers license part looks so odd)
