These two Surprise Quilts were a year in the making and involved forty women around the world. It was elaborate set-up with teams for supplies, etc. Each participant either created her own personalized square (majority) or asked me to make one for her. Some ladies embroidered, some cross-stitched, some stamped or stenciled, some drew freehand, and some wrote poems or messages. The picture does little justice to the amazing talents each person exhibited. I put all the squares together and created the final product. Another gal gathered all the photographs I took and created a scrapbook for each receipient entitled "The History of My Surprise Quilt". Each recipient was presented her special quilt and scrapbook on her birthday in September 2004 (both ladies celebrate birthdays in September).
