Journaling- The time for us to learn how to handle situations unique to infant twins was cut short when they arrived eight weeks early… Since I always planned on exclusively breastfeeding, we never even considered the challenge of bottle feeding two babies at the same time. Unfortunately, nursing them became an impossible road for me. To begin with, my body was not ready to produce enough milk for two babies at only 32 weeks. Then, when I woke up after my C-section, I was hooked up to a morphine drip which affected my judgment. The babies didn’t know yet how to suck and I didn’t even try to pump until the next day. My mom tried to get me to do it but didn’t have any support from the nurses or doctors. When I finally did, I barely got anything. I did everything I could to make my milk come in over the next six weeks. I tried every conventional and non-conventional method I could find including increased fluids, beer, herbal supplements, and double pumping for extended periods of time. I was so sad when nothing worked. It was the worst feeling for me because I knew that my milk was the best food for my babies and I couldn’t give them the best. So I resigned and we did only bottle feedings. The new challenge became how to feed them both when they were hungry at the same time. I was already sensitive when it came to their feedings so I did not want either baby to have to wait to eat. Here are some pictures of the creative solutions everyone came up with for bottle feeding twin babies at the same time!
