How touching. This brought tears to my eyes reading this. I too have a soft heart, you can tell by the eight cats that OWN me ! I Love each one of them very very much.
Oh wow, this is a gorgeous page & very touching story! Excellent placement of all those photos, great colors, awesome how you did the title, dig the little calendar. Amazing job, love this!
Pretty layout and darling pictures, but the very best part is your story! It would make a wonderful story for your local paper to bring awareness to our little friends...they have no voices but ours. Thanks for caring so.
What a WONDERFUL story! My dogs are chipped also....would only hope and pray someone kind like you would find them if they ever got away....pretty page too :)
What a great storyteller you are! I couldn't stop reading and I can't believe they never called you! Love the colors and the swirls and flowers! Great job getting down on the kitty's level to take those wonderful pics!
Oh my goodness...what a wonderful story. And your layout is just amazing. I love the chipboard and the flowers. The way you did the title is so fun. Beautiful job on the color challenge!
Awwwww what a touching story - your words brought a lump to my throat, it is a shame the owners couldn't pick up the phone and just let you know all was well, lovely page though and great memory too TFS :)
I just loved your story being the animal nut that I am. I've been know to pick up a few stray cats in my time too! I absolutely love your tribute to her in a wonderful lo!
This is for the Aug Color Challenge..Warning, LONG Journaling:Patchy's Story We first saw her in May 2006, another stray cat wandering around in our apartment parking lot. At that time there was about 4 of them. I named them all. Bootsie, Tortie, Fluff and Patchy. The only one that would come right to us was Bootsie, we would later find out that she had a home but liked to wander at night.
I tried and tried to get the rest to come to me, to trust me, but they wouldnt have anything to do with me. They would eat the food I put out every night, but as soon as they would see me watching them, off they would go. Fluff was the first one that finally gave in and for four months he stayed in a box on our porch until the day came that we finally knew it was time to turn him into the Humane Society that was in Feb 2007 (he was adopted the same week).
Next I focused all my attention on Patchy, trying to get her to come to me. Barry never thought I would get this stray, feral cat to ever come close enough to touch, and deep down neither did I. But in March 2007 something changed and one night when I was setting out food for the night, I saw Patchy sitting at the end of the porch just watching me. As I moved the food closer to her, she stood up. I thought she was gonna run but to my surprise she walked toward me and the bowl. I stood still and she started to eat. This was progress!. I wanted to pet her, but was I pushing my luck?
Slowly I bent down to her level, let her see me raise my hand, she didnt move, I slowly moved my hand closer, and gently touched the top of her head. I couldnt believe what happened next. Patchy collapsed to the ground and rolled over on her back and showed me her belly! No!, did she really want a tummy rub?!. Yes she did! I couldnt believe after all this time she was just laying there letting me pet her. I almost cried. I stayed outside with her for an hour petting her, letting her rub against me , and telling her that I was gonna get her to a good home someday. When I went in for the night she stood by the door, ,my heart broke that I couldnt let her in (my two cats dont share the same affection for strays that I do). The next morning there she was laying on the rug in front of the door ready to greet me. That night I brought home a box from work and put an old sheet in it, she immediately went inside and stretched out and went to sleep. Patchy stayed on the porch for 2 months. I wanted to get her to trust me enough to pick her up and put her in a carrier.
That day came on May 22, 2007. We took her to the Humane Society vet and to everyones surprise we discovered that she was microchipped! The vet pulled up the owners information and with us standing next to Patchy she made the phone call. The owner was in shock and said "we lost her over a year ago" "are you sure its her?", He then described her as having "brown" patches, and being "very small" (after being fed 3 times a day, she wasnt that small anymore..LOL) the vet said yes and asked him if he wanted her back. He said "yes" and that he would notify his wife and they would pick her up that evening. I cried so hard leaving her, happy that she was going home but full of questions of how she got away from them in the first place. .Would it happen again?
We left all of our information with the vet and asked if she could pass it on to the owners. .We wanted to know what area they lived in, how close it was to us and what was her real name? Later that night Barry called the vet to find out if she had been picked up the vet said yes and that when the wife saw her "she cried", and they seemed so happy to have her back. .She said she passed on our information, we thanked her and she thanked us for taking such good care of Patchy. For about a week every time the phone rang I was hoping it was the owners, they never called.
We can only guess that maybe she is a Princess or a Molly or maybe even a Jasmine, no matter what her real name is, she will always be "Patchy" to me..
