SWEETHEARTS - Bob Sessler and JoAnn Forward were high school sweethearts. They lived in the small farming town of Hugoton, Kansas and attended Hugoton High School. Bob was a star player on the football team and JoAnn was a cheerleader and majorette in the marching band. After they graduated in 1947, they worked and saved their money so they could get married. It was during World War II and Bob received his draft notice. As he was preparing to go, it was announced that they were no longer calling up troops as the war was winding down. They were married on June 1, 1948. Two years later they started their family with the birth of my brother, Robert Greg and then I came along in 1953. We had a wonderful family life. Our parents were always kind, loving, generous and encouraged us to do our best, live good lives and follow our dreams. Their greatest goal in life was for us to be happy and fulfilled. My parents walked hand in hand through life for more than 69 years until Mom passed away in 2017. Theirs was a match made in heaven and one day that is where they will continue their eternal love story. I am so thankful for the great honor and blessing it was to have such wonderful parents as Bob and JoAnn Sessler.
