Journaling Reads: This will be the first of many birthdays for you. Such a joyous celebration but not without some great heartache as well. There is something about the great milestone of a birthday that makes grief so poignant. Your grandmother on Daddy's side passed away ten months before Annabelle was born. It was very sudden and completely unexpected. Each birthday you girls have I come face to face with the reality that she really is gone. She is not coming back. And that is a reality that really sucks. She would have loved to see you girls and buy you silly gifts that you totally don't need. She would have played goofy games with you and told you stories. She would have bounced you on her knee and let you drink way too much Coke. She would have loved you in a way that only a Grandmother could. But thankfully we know for a fact she is in heaven. Right now as I type this she can look right into the face of Jesus if she so desires. She is in the company of Paul, and Timothy, and Moses. And one day, sweet child,she will be in the company of you. So while birthdays and holidays and graduations will be hard the reunion with your Grandmother once you go to heaven will more than make up for all the emptyness and heartache you experience here on earth. You are going to get one heck of a homecoming party! The kind that only a Grandmother could throw! I love you!!
