Wallace Lake
Location: Hwy 2
Date: 4/27/08
RT: 11 miles
Adventurers: Gabi, Aaron, Sam, Dan

We originally planned to head to Lake Serene for our Eat, Sleep, Hike
weekend but the trail is not hikeable quite yet this year. We had
quite hard time finding a trail that would be snow free, either here
or on the other side of the mountains.

In the end we decided to give Wallace Lake a go. It was close by, and
even though the elevation gain is only about 1200 ft it promised
about 10-12 miles.

There are several different routes to the lake. One of them leads
from the upper Wallace Falls but last week the area was covered in
snow, I have never done it be before, and signs warn it's easy to get
lost in that part so we opted for the safer route - left Wallace
Falls trail in about a mile and continued on well marked trails to
Wallace Lake with a possibility to visit the falls on the way back if
the snow coverage is not preventing us from safely finding route to
the Upper Falls.

The trail was snow free all the way to the lake. The shore and from
then on was covered with some snow but after a group of boy scouts
emerged from direction of the falls, we new we could take it safely.
If nothing else we could follow their footprints.

The crossover ended up to be very easy. We found couple spots that in
past could have been confusing and easily could get people lost but
the intersections are very nicely marked now.

We finish out trip heading down the Wallace Falls trail enjoying
raging snow fed waterfalls.
