Favorite in 100 ways! Gorgeous layout to look at and the journaling is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. This should be in a magazine somewhere. Love every bit of it.
Beautiful journaling. The colors are so perfect together and it wonderful that you managed to put all these photos together. You've arranged them very nicely too of course.
Beautiful tribute LO. Straight into my faves. I can't even articulate all the things I love about it! Fab photos and such sweet journaling. Was it typed on vellum?

Wow Susan! This is fantastic. Quite the keepsake - your kids will do battle over this bit of recorded history in years to come. Love how many pics you were able to include and how you bullet-pointed the journaling. Very nice work.
Man...your journaling brought a tear to my eye. As I read through it, I could certainly relate. Now that I'm a relatively new mom myself, I too hope that my girls will look back and see that life isn't about the material things but things that no amount of money can buy. This is a fabulous tribute to your parents and a legacy for your children. Beautiful!
So wonderful! The journaling is fantastic - it took me back to my childhood where we were very poor, but never realized it then, my parents provided what was needed, was taught things too, like how to mow, wash clothes, iron, etc. Love the colors and the use of multiple photos also! :>)
A layout about my life, growing up and the parents who gave it all to ME. I rarely do a two page layout...but I really needed the room on this one! LOL! I used CTMH papers, the new Fiskars apron border punch, lots of Prima bling (thanks Retrojulie), Stickles to add sparkle to my title letters, and some Prima flowers (and the white flower is from the bridal dept at Michaels). I journaled directly on the background cardstock. I used an old typewriter font in keeping with the "heritage" look. Journaling is long, but if you'd like to know what it says...here goes:
My parents gave me life and they guided my life to help me become the person they knew I could be. Was my life perfect? No. We were very poor – but only in a monetary sense. As a child, I never realized that we were poor. I've only come to realize that since I've been grown. We had all the love and support that we could have wanted and everything that we needed. They made sure that I learned right from wrong, and that I developed a good sense of values. They let me make mistakes, and they let me suffer the consequences of my mistakes, which was all part of the learning process.
My parents were the ones who were at every ballgame to cheer us on. They were some of the leading supporters in the school's booster club – helping to raise money to support our school. They did things that I now realize must have taken a lot of courage to do. I remember my Daddy dressing up to enter a men's “beauty” pageant (in a dress no less!). I remember Mama and Daddy dressing up as Snuffy and Louisa Smith (from the comic strip) for a booster club fund raiser. They were so realistic, that our dog tried to bite them! Everyone got a good laugh from that story.
There were trips to the beach with a picnic lunch shared at a roadside park. There were lots of hugs and kisses and I love you's. I thought that my Mama was the best cook in the world, and that Daddy could build anything. We never lacked for a good meal and we usually had something to play with that Daddy had made for us.
Life wasn't just all play though. We all learned the value of a job well done. We learned how to mow the lawn, clean the house, cook a meal, and do the laundry. I learned at an early age, how to preserve food for the winter months. Working in the garden was an every summer activity.
Was my life hard? If you judged it by the lack of luxuries, then yes. If you judge it based on the love and care that we had…then I was the richest person in the world.
Did my parents do everything right? Probably not, but I know that everything was seasoned with love. I truly hope that my children view their childhood as a happy time and that they know how much they are loved. I can only hope that I provided the same loving and supportive home environment for my children that my parents gave to me.
