Valentine's Day : My Kind of Valentine

We don't do a lot of the normal Valentine's Day activities every year- no romantic dinners, no sweet cards, no boxes of chocolates. So when I saw that the new Die Hard movie was scheduled to come out on February 14th this year, I had to chuckle to myself and then scrap a page about how that would be the perfect Valentine's Day activity for us. I'm not sure if we'll actually be able to convince ourselves to go out to the theater to see it (we're very wait-for-it-to-come-out-on-Netflix around here), but it's a nice thought!Since we don't have a lot of Valentine's Day photos, I don't like to load up on themed product for the holiday. There are always one or two Valentine's Day lines that catch my eye each year, though (this year it's Crate Paper's Fourteen, Echo Park's Love Story, and Pink Paislee's Secret Crush), and I try to pick and choose just a few elements from each line to add to my collection. With those items in hand, it's easy to pull out non-V-Day items to mix in to make a themed page. Little neutral bits such as mini alphas, veneers, enamel dots, pearls, gems, and washi tape are always good to have on hand for pulling the look together.My favorite types of themed elements to buy to mix like this are ephemera packs (I used Pink Paislee's Secret Crush die cuts on this page) and cut-apart sheets that are often included with scrapbook paper collections. These sheets can include a variety of elements such as tags, borders, and journaling cards, and often include more general items as well as holiday or theme specific ones. I've linked up several examples of such sheets for a variety of collections (not just the Valentine's Day ones!) in the shopping list below. It's a great way to get the look of a collection without buying every sheet (though I've been known to take that option, too!). This particular page started with the Accent Cuts sheet from Crate Paper's Fourteen collection, which I found to be a good match to the pinks and reds in Echo Park's For the Record 2 - Tailored collection. As a side note, the aquas and yellows in Fourteen also match up well with the more masculine aqua and yellow scheme in For the Record 2 - Documented. Once I had my base of cut-apart accents and some papers from Tailored, I went on to pull out embellishments from a number of collections, including Basic Grey's Soleil (a summer themed line), Pink Paislee's Portfolio (an everyday line), and even a bit of My Mind's Eye's Lost and Found 3 (enamel dots and stamps). My journaling is hidden in bitty bag behind the photo block- I loved how the black chevron print matched up with the chevron border sticker running across the bottom of the layout. I've seen several threads on the message board asking for ideas for using these- some others are in the 3x4 pocket of a Project Life album and as the base of an embellishment cluster.
