Only had one picture of tyler on the plane so i decided to leave alot of white space.

When Tyler was in fifth grade one of his extra credit assignments was to enter a contest run by NASA. He and a group of friends had to choose a technology created by NASA and make a video about how it is used in everyday life. They chose GPS technology in cars. They were chosen as first place winners in their age group. Previous winners were given a cash prize and an awards ceremony at Kennedy space center in nearby Cocoa Beach but due to budget cuts they kept postponing it. Two years later they finally decided to hold the ceremony at Goddard Space Center in Washington D.C. They sent the families a Visa card with a set amount. While it was generous it really didn't cover the full cost of airfare, hotel and food. Since it was just Tyler and I we decided to splurge and spend just about the entire amount on upgrading to first class flight! Tyler had never flown first class so he took full advantage of all the amenities. Free food, drinks and movies!
While it ended up costing us a ton of money out of packet, this really was the trip of a lifetime. I've never met so many brilliant people in my life! I'm not sure if the boys really understood how lucky they were to be able to make these connections but the parents sure did. As part of the boys prize package they were guaranteed an internship at Goddard when they get older. Hopefully we'll one day be able to take advantage of that.
