Such a sweet story and page... I hope your son and his family's dream comes true. Tell them to start working on their garden as soon as they can, because time flies by. We built a house 35+ yrs ago and never really had the money or the time to work on the yard other than a few trees we got for $1 each from the forestry commission and the odd flower bed that would only last a year or two then die out. In the last three years, we've put in sod, fences, 500 or so plants, bushes and trees and two vegetable gardens. Now I'm working on putting in a kids garden/play area. I so wish we had started doing a bit at the time 30 yrs ago (like my parents encouraged us to do) - can only imagine how it would have looked by now. But, hopefully, we'll have at least 20 (or more) years to enjoy it :)
What you guys call a yard, we call a garden here in the UK! My son and his family took us to see a lovely formal garden and they were just wishing for one of their own! They are hoping to move house before the end of the year (new arrival expected later this month!) and it will certainly have a garden.
I am taking part in an online 'cyber crop' in the UK and the first challenge was to scrap 'Wishes and dreams' so this summed it up nicely!
