What a wonderful LO and story - brings back so many memories. Your dad must have always had an extra special place in his heart for you because of these events. Great choice of pp's - cute embellies ~
This is so nice. I want to make a book like this. I was born 3 months earlier (March 8, 1953)! My Dad has a purple heart from WW II. He was home when I was born. Glad you have the picture of Grandma's house and of the original newspaper clipping! That's a great story!
Quite an amazing beginning Sue! As the Mom of a career soldier, ironically in Korea now, he loves his job, yet cries at all the first times and everyday moments he has missed in his daughter's life.
This is amazing. What a great album. I love the theme of this and how you carried it throughout the book. I'm so happy that you have a photo of this first house you lived in. You've done beautiful work here.
I got goosebumps reading this, Sue! My brother's in-laws still live in Oceanside and my brother's BD is June 9! How very inspirational this is! I did create a LO some time ago journaling about all the different houses (address, etc) of where we lived.
my oh my your family history reads like a novel, and could imagine a wondeful movie being made here ..how ironic you being born the day your father was wounded ...such a special lil album you have created to pass down through your generations
Wonderful memories and pages for your family to cherish. Isn't it amazaing you were born the very day your dad was wounded in Korea. I love your Little Home Base. What could be any nicer than grandma's house!
This is quite impressive....love the story you have here and the little touches, like the pinned piece of lace and roses. Cute house your Grandma had and you were so fortunate your Dad's life was spared~ My Dad was in the same War...he took some shrapnal (sp) and got a purple heart too but can you believe when he & my Mom divorced....he left his metals and she threw them out thinking they weren't important. Good Luck!!!
It is so neat that you have this information to keep in your family's history.
I love the distressing and the holes in the paper. Love the lace with the stick pin (I never know what to do with those things and now I do). They lo has a sense of history and a homey feeling.
Oceanside, New York When I was born my mother was living with her parents at 169 Terrell Avenue in Oceanside, New York. My father was in the military and serving in Korea. He was wounded on June 8, 1953, ironically the same day that my mother gave birth to me. One newspaper article even called me a “Purple Heart Baby”. Happily my father survived. I cannot imagine the stress and anguish my mom must have felt during this difficult time.
28 Benson Place Valley Stream, New York HOME BASE While we were living in Europe, we didn’t have a home in the states, so grandma’s house was always “home base”. Every so many years we would come back ‘home’ and this little house kept us warm and safe. I have wonderful memories of being there.
