Harvester Ants are fairly large, maybe 2 would fit on a dime. They work very hard taking all the fallen leaves and blossoms and carrying them to their hole. For foood? NOPE, they take their harvest and pack it below ground and keep it moist till it molds. Then they feed the babies mold. Odd but wonderful Their ant hills are about 4 to 5 inches high and 12 inches across. They do no harm to the yard or garden but people still try to kill them off. I love to watch them in a long line each carrying a leaf several times their size.
