Haven't been to the Johnson Ridge Center in years, so we took DGS Andrew up there. This was shot about halfway there. It is the North face of the mtn where most of the explosion & snow/mud slides occurred. (This was a perfectly formed peak before May 18, 1980) It's been "rebuilding" itself and what is called the dome in the center of the crater. We see steam there all the time. What shows as "wasteland" in the photo used to be a highly dense forest of 100 to 300 ft tall evergreen trees which all got flash burned and wacked off by the ash, debris, and flash flooding. It's an amazing place and a look at how the mountain is now rebuilding including plant life and animals.
