31 OCT 2020 @ 1:30 am / Full ''Blue'' Hunter's Moon

A Full Hunter's Moon is the best time of the year for hunting. This is the month when the game is fattened, and it is time to start preparing for the coming winter. The trees have lost their leaves, and the fields are free of the crops that might have served as hideouts for the hunter's prey.

Two full moons in the same month only happen about every 33 months or ''once in a blue moon.'' This full moon is kind of rare since it also falls on Halloween, the last time being in 2001, 19 years ago.

A Blue Moon, which does not actually appear to be blue, is the second full moon in the same calendar month. According to folklore, the first full moon is called the "Lovers Moon". When the second full moon of the month occurs there are no lovers left, and it's all alone and blue.

As a bonus, this full ''blue'' moon will be visible in all US time zones, weather permitting, for the first time since 1944 or 76 years.

Other names for this full moon include, ''The Blood Moon'' for hunting and butchering, ''The Traveling Moon'' as the Native American tribes and animals migrated to more favorable areas for the long winter months, ''When the Leaves Fall Moon'', and the ''Dying Grass Moon.'' PA313952
