Very cool! My parents and I used to ride our bikes here to Mendenhall from our home a few miles away and have picnics... DH and I were back there for a short busienss trip in March 2003 and I couldn't believe how much the glacier has receded!! When I lived there (in the 1960s), we could walk right up to the glacier in just about 15 minutes' time!

These pictures were taken on my cruise to Alaska. It was an amazing view of a glacier up close. The glaciers in Alaska are receding due to global warming. The clay looking groud is called silt. It is the sediment left behind after the glacier has melted.
