If anyone is interested, the journaling reads: I started to feel contractions on October 30th a little before 6 pm. Aden was taking a bath, and I went to get my cell phone to time them. As the contractions went from five minutes apart to three minutes apart, I sat in the bathroom in disbelief. Was it really time? By 7 o’clock there was not question about it; the time had come. I called Grandma so that she could start her trip from Charlotte and asked Trina to come watch over Aden in the meantime. He was so excited that the baby was coming that he would not go to sleep! We arrived at the hospital at 8:30, only to be told that we had to go all the way to the emergency room to register. Josh took care of that while I got settled in the birthing room. I was 4 cm dilated upon arrival, and after the IV was put in Josh and I were left to ourselves for a while. The contractions started to get very painful, and I asked to be checked again around midnight - only 5 cm. I couldn’t believe it! I was so sure that I was in transition. The contractions were very strong, and I felt nauseous after each one. Even though I had planned on an unmedicated birth, I felt like I couldn’t take the pain anymore. I told the nurse that I would like to speak to the anesthesiologist about an epidural. Then I felt an uncontrollable urge to push with the very next contraction. The nurse came back in the room (rolling her eyes a bit, as it had been less than 5 minutes) to check me again, and I was complete! The doctor was called, the stirrups were set up, and Harper Elizabeth was born in one push. I was glad to avoid the epidural, and Josh and I were so happy to meet our baby.
