THE STORY: Growing up in the tech age ? Google, YouTube, Siri ? they are a part of my boy?s daily life. He has access to so much information and I can usually find him poring over the MAC looking up gila monsters, Stampy Longnose or the depth of the Atlantic Ocean. Parenting this is something new, something that I can?t relate to from my childhood. Limiting the time he spends with his face glued to a screen and at the same time encouraging him to stay connected is a fine balancing act. I thought this story should be told in a layout ? a time capsule of technology in the life of my 6-year-old.THE DESIGN: The page is centered around the large wood buttons by Jillibean Soup. They are available in a few different themes, but this particular set from Spicy Social Soup was perfect for the tech theme. The buttons inspired both the theme and color of the page. The base of the layout is a light blue and white grid that maintains an office/tech feel and is layered with stars, stripes and small envelope patterns. I also used a circle placemat by Jillibean to give a home (and ground) the focal embellishment (wood buttons). The main part of the layout includes photos, a journaling spot and then a bit of stamping, cork and chipboard to given an eclectic, colorful feel to a very linear design. Lastly, a bold navy title featuring a hashtag line right under the focal photo draws the eye to the center of the design.
