It's been 5 1/2 years since you posted this layout, but I just did a search for Trixie Jarrette Dance and your post came up! I too was a student of Trixie's - in mid 1970's. When were you there? I hardly remember anything other than having to put on makeup for the dance recital. Did you attend the local Indio schools? I graduated IHS in 1985. I still have a program from the recital.
Wow .. I love this story. I love the colors you chose because it makes me think of that pink studio. The placement of everything is just perfect. It's balanced, it flows and I love it.
Diva in the hoooooouuuuuuuuse! OMG, you are absolutely adorable! I just want to give the young you and the adult you a big hug! First off, the journaling is amazingly detailed and touching. The colors rock! Pink and brown are a favorite of mine, although I rarely use them. I love the composition of this layout and your placement overall. Would you entertain matting the star in that blue just to create a visual triangle of blue with the other touches of blue. Your handwriting is simply to die for, woman! I love this and it makes me luvs you even more. xoxoxoxo
This paper coordinates nicely with your photos. I like the journaling and how you put the photo corners on it. I also like the ribbon and the "dream" slide. I enjoyed reading your story and thank you for sharing it with us!!!!
Oh, these pictures are wonderful and so cute!! Your use of paper is terrific and I love the ribbon at the bottom of the page. The only suggestion I would make would be to use your white pen and draw a doodled line across the brown paper on the right side above your journaling, kind of like how it looks around the circles at the top and bottom.
Oh my goodness, look at you! You are such a little cutie!!! Oh I love this LO, love the pink/blue/brown combo, the grouping of the rounded-corner photos, the placement w/ the wide band & circles, the dotted pp, stars, title font, all of it. Especially love the sincere journaling. I'm so happy you captured these memories & shared them w/ us. Superduper!
Brenda!! come here *hug* i know *exactly* what you are saying in this. It's like, you're telling MY story! I even started when i was little, stopped, and started again when i was in middle/high school! aw, i may have to lift your idea and do one of my own.
Ok, now about he LO. I love the pp, and the way you used the stars as embellies, and how most of your outfits have the stars on them. love the cemi circles, and the placement of everything. I absolutely love it, you've inspired me!
Great , great journaling! Great colors-love the touches of blue;love the photo placement! The ribbon on the bottom ties everything together very nice! Love the way you did the title too! Great job on the challenge!
Awww how cute did you look!!! I love the colours, title and the placment of the photos and elements. The journaling is fabulous and so is this LO!! Great job!
First off, I love your colors and the way the back PP almost matches one of your dance outfits! Also love the detail of the stars and the semicircles, I definately have a better picture of what you meant in my LO now (thanks!) Most of all though, I love the vivid detail of your journaling. Awesome job on this challenge bren! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is for the SHCG Week #31 WC which was to create a "Memory Lane" lo about something in our childhood that gave us joy, complete with journaling. The journaling spans two pages and can be detached from the photo corners.
It reads: When I was about seven years old, my mom entered me in ballet and tap classes at the Trixie Jarrett School of Dance--a small, pink studio just off of Miles Avenue in Indio, California. I got such a thrill in choosing my first pair of ballet slippers, blue leotard, pink tights, and a sturdy bag to carry them in with a separate compartment for the shoes. Yet, I remember being shy to make friends and change in front of them. I don't remember Trixie herself, a stern older woman, teaching my classes. Instead, I had two students of hers, young women, graceful and attractive. I aspired to have the most elegant hands, the deepest grand plies, and the widest turnout. I'd even reach eleves on the very tips of my toes without pointe shoes. I didn't take to tap as well, though. I felt clumsy, awkward, and uncoordinated. At a performance for one senior center, I actually had to keep myself from slipping during the whole routhine. We also performed at the annual Indio Date Festival on an outdoor stage for a large audience. Even though I felt stupid in the way my mom arranged my costume accessories, I wanted to keep dancing, especially after my teachers danced a very modern, fun, and cool routine to Rick James's "Superfreak" (!), a notable departure from our classically trained ones. I became consumed by dance movies like "Fame" and dance novels. I dreamt of becoming a prima ballerina. Howvever, my mom didn't encourage a dance career and my time at school came to an end. For this reason, I never understood why she enrolled me in the first place. I didn't take up dance again until I was in high school, for three years, when my future again became an issue and I finally gave it up for good. Still, I will always remain a dancer at heart.
Thank yous to Nitza for the photo corners and chipboard ribbon tag, and to K for the sparkly coral star button.
