First, photos like this and journaling like this are always what make me know why I love to create: we create not only for us but for those before us and for those to come. Obits never do that person justice; it's the quirky bits and the toothless grins from the life they lived that deserve the mention. I adore the touch of colour on the roses in the photo. Personally, I really hope you'll frame this; it's well worth being shown off.
Bren, this LO is as beautiful in sentiment as it is to the eyes. The journaling is remarkable and the colors, gorgeous. The only thing I may have changed is I would have put smaller, more delicate flowers on the page. The journaling on this page though is my favorite, i learned so much about your nanang. Your personalized writing of "beloved" and "in loving memory" also adds your personal touch. Awesome LO!
I love the fact you used a 8x10 on this amazing pictrure. I love the journaling strips and the colors are perfect. WHat a wonderful tribute to your nana. Great job!!
Oh sweetie, this is such a wonderful page & an amazing tribute, as well as an awesome response to Sarah's challenge to do things uncharacteristic of you. I love how you tackled the "one big meaningful" photo thing (I've yet to myself), journaling strips, flowers embellies & no inking, you did these un-Brenda things so beautifully & daringly on such a meaningful LO too. I love the journaling strips & all the tidbits about Nanang that you share on them (& hugs for you, hon, being the only one who didn't speak & having this be your opportunity). What a treat to know that she loved game shows & sports TV games, LOL on "sickesty pibe," (!) & wow about the Japanese occupation (my parents & their families too survived that). It is these meaningful details of Rosa's life which inspired me to vote for this page. Dang good looking photo & page, too, she is adorable & the colors, flowered pp & embellies, shadowed title, green brads & handwriting by "Nanang" & "Rosa" are simply perfect. Being an ink junkie myself, I momentarily thought about perhaps inking the journaling strips, but then I thought, naw, this is lovely enuff as is (then when I read you were avoiding inking, I was like "you go girl!"). You & seester created such beautiful & celebratory tributes to Nanang!
Bren, great, great , great! So glad that you went with the 8x10 photo-brings the focus on your nana! Love the colored roses on the B&W photo! Nana looks happy and very sweet in this photo and the pp, flowers, font for the title -everything is just sweet like her. Great way to remember nana and I'm glad you decided to keep it after all! You managed to include so much info about her and the strips balance the big photo so well. The rose pp -her name Rosa;the first time use of flowers ( congrats-you used the right once and use them in a great way)-the purple flowers int he photo-genius!Oh, almost forgot to say that the use of the purple ink here is great!
Now, when I said i'd have a hard time suggesting ANYthing, I meant it. The balance on this LO is absolutely perfect. I love that you put the flowers on opposite left and right sides.. and then the title opposite as well.. which balance perfectly. Then, those journaling strips perfectly balance out that photo. I love that every single thing has a reason for being there, the flowers, all the lavender, everything. I, really, cannot think of a single thing I would add or change.
Congrats Brenda!!! This is such a sweet LO. The colours are great and the flowers tie it all togethher. The pic is fabulous, I love the placement of everything and you definatly achieved the femine look. I love the journalling. The infomation in it is fabulous, it tells a lot of different bits of info about her and was the reason why I voted for this LO. You did a fabulous job a remembering your Grandma and on my challenge!
This is for the SHCG Weeks #32-33 WC which was to create a lo that does not use at least 2 of the elements that appear on our last 5 los. I noticed that I use Cricut for my titles, but my Teardrop font came in, and I had to use it! One thing, I know I'm not is a big picture. single photo scrapper, and I've had this photo for a few years now. My sister snapped this photo during her SoCal visit with the folks, which she presented to me when she returned. I was like, "What am I gonna do with this big ol' goofy pic with Nanang's toothless grin?" We had a good laugh over it, and I didn't think of it again until after her recent passing. Originally, I had decided to make it a somber memorial page to reflect my feelings, but when I pulled out the photo again, I laughed so hard and knew that there was no way a mournful lo could come from it. This leads me to the journaling strips, something I've always wanted to include in a lo, and I saw this as an opportunity. It's also to make up for being the only grandchild to not speak during her eulogy. I just couldn't do it, which the family noted is very uncharacteristic of me. These are the things I would have shared about her life, which most people did not know, and I regret not doing so. Finally, I didn't own any flower embellies, nor had I ever used any for a single lo. It's just not my style. However, being that Nanang's name is Rosa and she's holding roses in the photo and that she loved lavender, I thought it was appropriate. I also tried to keep myself from inking anything, but I've become an ink junkie. That's what happens when you roll with our critique gang. I knew this would result in a very feminine lo than I'm accustomed to, and I had planned on giving it away to a family member. Now that it's done, though, I'm very happy with it, and I'll be keeping it for myself after all.
Journaling reads: -it means "mother" -daughter to poor basket weavers, and of Spanish descent -survivor of Japanese occupation of the Philippines -mistress to an Italian military man -mother of 3 girls -lifelong love affair with tobacco and game shows and sports TV games -modest, humble, loving, & youthful Gemini w/a sense of humor-- eternally "sickesty-pibe" (65) & an end-ish of May birthday -hardworking, caretaker, personal chef, housekeeper, and gardener 'round the clock -"Nanang" to all
