This is the first two-page spread of two for the SHCG Week #39 WC which was to creat a lo about the men in our lives. I chose my schrubby. The fifth draft of my handwritten journaling (and I'm still not completely happy with it) reads:
Within the last year you had expresed a passing interest in our gym's annual triathlon. Then three weeks before the race, you decided to begin training, but you doubted your ability tohold your own among what you thought could be some scary competition. You even considered putting it off until next year, but with some encouragement, you made the commitment and entered two weeks before the competition. Even then, you wavered between enrolling in the competitive and reacreational categories. Again, with some convincing you stuck with the competitive group where you belonged. You continued to train although you remained unsure about how you'd fare against the rest, especially since you had only trained the equivalent of a week. On the day of the race, you tried to appear calm as you nervously sized up the competition, opted not to wear your new swim cap in favor of comfort, and joked about your tight swim trunks. A cool, overcast morning, the conditions were perfect and the race kicked off with your weakest event-swimming, but you surprised even yourself when you completed your laps a minute sooner than you had in training. You blasted past your competition in your strongest event--biking--and made excellent strides in the running event. Not only did you finish the race, you placed in the top ten, proving to yourself what I've always known--you are a winner! Like your zodiac sign, you are an unassuming mountain goat who steadily climbs his way to the top. You are a paragon of strength. You are amazing. I am so very proud of you. I love you, and I forever remain your biggest fan.
[Moi, thanks for the pen! It was perfect for this lo.]
The yellow men on the right page are images from the t-shirt that our gym gave the triathletes for participating. I drew them and cut them out from cs.
