My daughter had surgery to correct Sagittal Synostosis (she had no soft spot, her skull fused early) on July 26, 2007. She did wonderfully and is healthy and happy now. Journaling reads: "July 26, 2007 is a day that Daddy and I will never forget. It was time for you to have corrective surgery for Sagittal Synostosis. Your skull fused too early, and the doctors had to fix it so your brain had room to grow. We took you to The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado to the best craniofacial surgical team in the country.Knowing you were seeing the best still didn’t make it any easier. It was the most agonizing four hours of my life, and I can’t even describe the feeling of relief when the surgeons came out and told us it was over, and that you did wonderfully. It was surreal being in a hospital where my 3-month old baby was a patient.
Everyone told us that you were going to make it through the surgery better than Daddy and I. I will have to agree with them. You showed such amazing strength and courage that I didn’t know was possible, especially for such a tiny human being. My view on life was changed when you were born, but after this, everything was wiped out, and I was left with greater appreciation of how fragile life is, and the overwhelming desire to assure that I live each day to the fullest, and NEVER take you for granted. Not only did you amaze me, but I surprised myself. I guess I knew that I had to be strong for you. You needed my strength to help you heal.
Everything leading up to, and following your surgery has been life changing. You strength will always be a reminder to me to never lose...HOPE."
