It used to be we went to the beach to get a sun tan…now we cover everyone with SPF 50 whether it’s sunny or not. Our beach attire used to be bikinis, now we wouldn’t be caught dead in a bikini and wear shorts/T-shirts instead. The whole point of going to the beach was to check out the guys and be a part of the scene, now the whole point of going is for a playdate, a chance to splash in the water and dig in the sand. Everything we needed would fit in one beach tote, now we need to load up the wagon with all our gear. We played Frisbee for fun, now you can’t go without sand toys. If we got hungry, we’d go get KFC and slurpees, now the picnic cooler contains healthy snacks and lots of water. We’d spend the entire day soaking up the sun, now we go before it gets too hot, and leave by nap time. On the ride home, we’d listen to Honeymoon Suite (“Wave Babies”) and other 80’s bands, now we listen to the Wiggles and hope the kids fall asleep so we are guaranteed a peaceful drive home.
