I love my comfort zone, and I'm not afraid to admit. But don't say I never try anything new. I have recorded something new I did for each year for ten years. The year in which the activity is recorded is the first time I EVER did it.
1999 - Went flatting. Tried marijuana (and hated it). Drove an automatic. Went to church regularly. Smoked a cigarette. Met Steve. Got drunk.
2000 - Got engaged. Got pregnant. Experienced morning sickness. Had an ultrasound.
2001 - Went to Wellington. Threw a 21st birthday party. Went on an impromptu road trip. Started a blog. 'Met' Beth online. Went to antenatal classes. Experienced labour pains. Became a mother. Named a child. Made a scrapbook. Became a godparent.
2002 - Drank Diet Coke. Joined Weightwatchers. Got a permanent, full-time job. Had my very own 'in tray'. Put my child in daycare. Joined the social club committee. Organised a wedding.
2003 - Met Steve's biological father. Got married. Met my godson. Claimed on my insurance policy. Became an aunt.
2004 - Met Julie. Cried at a wedding.
2005 - Bought a house! Had an elective caesarean. Took paid maternity leave. Owned a digital camera.
2006 - Went to a parent/teacher interview...as a parent.
2007 - Felt an earthquake! Rang the poison centre. Started a tramping club. Went to a 'crop' (where you do scrapbooking with a bunch of other people). Won a Singstar competition. Went to Tauranga. Made pea and ham soup from scratch! Completed a diploma.
2008 - Saw dolphins swimming. Experienced the hot water at Hot Water Beach. Made sushi. Took my kids to an ANZAC dawn parade. Travelled on business. Met my goddaughter. Met Les, my step-grandfather. Went on a plane all by myself. Stayed in a motel all by myself. Missed a flight. Held a crocodile. Ate corn bread. Caught a turtle. Ate huevos rancheros. Ate chapatis. Saw Aboriginal rock art. Went on a broker visit. Got a company cellphone. Got my very own business cards. Got a speeding ticket. Grew (and ate) vegetable in my very own vegetable garden. Conducted a performance review for a direct report of mine.
2009 - Took my children camping. Rode on the back of a motorbike. Made 'toad in the hole'.
