These layouts don't show how "tricky" the canoe ride down the river actually was. In places the river was so narrow that we had to get out and manually push the boat through the shallow water to navigate it around the trees. We came home with scratches all over us from low limbs and tree branches which you couldn't get around. My son had a cut foot and a badly scratched up back with one deep cut from a branch. One of our friends who went with us found a tick on his body several days later and we were all chilled to the bone from the freezing summer rains that flooded us while we tried to stay a little bit dry under a low-lying limb over the river. We were still soaked to the skin!
In a few places my husband had to break off branches to get past certain parts of the river it was so narrow and so full of jungle growth.
