Wow...that's such an interesting story!!! Thanks for sharing it. great lo ..really like the scallopy bits behind the upper corner of the photo...very eyecatching!
thats an amazing story i honestly think they should have more places like that thats a god send that those munks do that what a wonderful place for people that need to make that very hard decision
This is my sister sitting on a window that is located outside a convent in Florence, Italy, where my sister lives. It is a place for people to bring babies people can't take care of, anonymously, and the monks will take care of them. The window is closed, but there is a sensor that opens the window when you wave your hand in front of it. Inside the window there is a padded bed where people place the baby. When there is weight on the bed and the window is closed the bed goes down and into the convent where an alarm sounds and a monk comes running to check the bed. How do I know this? My sister is actually describing all of this to me when I took the photo, and how she and some of her friends got curios about this one night when they where out and had had one to many glasses of redwine, and they got the smallest boy in the group to squeeze in there and sent him down, and in a matter of a few seconds he went down, got checked out by a monk and was sent up again. So this device is obviously very well monitored and active, which makes me sad in a way to know that this is needed, but also thankful for that they make it possible for people to make an actual choice when faced with an impossible situation.
Anyways, just to be clear, my sister is smiling because she was telling me the story of her and her friends drunken adventures but not because this is such a "fun" place. This was the only photo I had of the babywindow, so I had to use her smiling photo, but I really wanted to scrap this place to remember it. I've never seen anything like it. But I guess it is better than people leaving their children in parks or other public places, hoping for someone to find and take care of them.
