I was at the computer when the doorbell rang on Saturday, May 8, 2010. When I got to the door, Fedex was driving away. The driver had left a box, clearly marked "Flowers". As it was the day before Mother's Day, I knew it must be for me and excited I brought it into the house. Believing it was from daughter Rachel and her boyfriend Bob, I opened it as Barb looked on. Inside were beautiful tulips: red, white, purple and orange. With them was a green glass vase. I pulled out the card at the bottom of the box and to my surprise it read: "SURPRISE!! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. PAUL" What a shock! Paul and I have been divorced since 1978. The last time he sent me tulips was February 1973 when he was stationed on the USS Midway overseas. I immediately emailed him to thank him and said "what a surprise! The tulips are beautiful!! Thank you; that was so sweet!! I remember another time you sent me tulips! You never forgot, did you? Hugs, Charlene"
He emailed me back and simply said "nope" I had hoped to scrapbook the photos of the 1973 tulips with these, but am unable to locate the photo. I still have the sentiment attached to those which states: " Happy Valentine's Day, Angel. I love you. Paul" After 40 plus years, the man still surprises me!
