Bill, Joe, and I went to the license plate meet in St. Petersburgh, FL and spent Friday night and Saturday night. We met Betsy, Paula, Karl and Jonesie and Karl's poodle pups there and we all stayed in the hotel in rooms near each other.

The license plate meet was in a huge barn-type building which also houses antique car collections (those were moved out) and plate and sign collections permanently - kind of like a museum. It is in a very large fenced in area and this float was stored on the property so of course we had to check it out.

Betsy found a phoenomenal seafood restaurant and next year when we go to the St. Petersburgh meet I do plan to go back there!

Here's the journaling:

St. Petersburg, Florida

Bill, Joe, and I left Ocala very early on Friday morning, January 15th for the license plate meet in St. Petersburg.

The meet was at Jeff Francis' place which is awesome! Outside he had a parade float which was being stored and Bill and I had to get on it and explore it. Now I can say I have been on a parade float and so can Bill, although it was out in a vacant field, not in a parade!

On Friday night we had dinner at Rosie's Clam Shack – Joe and I had the fried shrimp and Bill seemed very happy with his whole belly clams.

Saturday night Bill, Joe, and I had dinner at a place called Quaker Steak & Lube. The place was adorable – they used the old Quaker State logo everywhere except it said “Quaker Steak” instead and was actually built inside an old vintage gas station. Race cars were hanging from the ceilings and mounted on the walls in all the rooms – it was really a large restaurant with several rooms. Mirrors and neon were everywhere! In one room they had a car up on a rack overhead held up by posts. The table was actually under the elevated car and while you were eating you could look up and see the undercarriage of the car. Of course it was all immaculately clean! The shrimp were okay, but Rosie's Clam Shack was much better.

A band was playing outside which was fine because it was muffled inside but very time someone opened the door the volume was overwhelming for a few minutes and unfortunately the door opened constantly.

Sunday afternoon we went to the beach in St. Petersburg but it was too cool and windy to go in the water, but we just wanted to see the ocean. When we got there we were amazed to see all the elaborate kites in the sky! They were from one end of the beach to the other and some of them were huge. Our favorite was the one that looked like a windsock and continually spun around; it was around 15'- 20' long!
