Picture above left: While we were walking around the Cliff Palace I looked up and saw the top of a cliff high above with people looking down at us. I asked Bill if that is where our hike started from and he said it was; they were the next group ready to start climbing down. That was the first time I realized how much of a steep climb it had really been, and it was the first time I realized how much of a climb was still ahead to get back up!

Left and right: Going up the final ladder. I hated the top of each ladder because the ladder rails did not go high enough to pull up on so I had to climb off the ladder on my hands and knees to get away from the ledge to stand up.
Bill always climbed the ladders behind me in case I lost my balance or slipped.
