There was a beautiful courtyard by the park; steps led down to the park with the Gen. MacArthur memorial. In the courtyard was a huge anchor (pictures below).
Two huge balloons were flying over the courtyard displaying advertising on streamers hanging from the balloons. Bill was shocked when the workers brought down the first beautiful balloon and then stabbed it with shears and cut it up rather than release the air valve and save the balloon.
When they started to bring the second balloon down Bill walked helped them pull on the ropes and then asked if he could purchase the balloon. They didn't understand so he got his wallet out and pointed to the balloon and tried to buy it.
They let him hold it for a few minutes for pictures (me too) and then they took the shears and destroyed it too. Bill was really disappointed although I don't have any idea what he would have done with that huge balloon. The balloon wouldn't have fit through the door of the ship.
We could have pulled the valve to release the helium but it would have taken several tanks to fill it again. Bill really wanted one of those balloons!
