June 13, 2003 started as any other day would. I can’t tell you how the morning went since it was nothing unusual was a normal day. I do remember that it was on a Saturday and that Father’s Day was the day after. K.C.’s first Father’s Day and one I know I was really excited about. I got him a really cool gift and a little scavenger hunt to go find it. I couldn’t wait to give him the gift so he got it a day early. Shortly after opening it I packed up Michael to head to Chuck E Cheese. It was the 2nd birthday of my cousins little boy. I met mom there and all the family. All was well. Dad was away on a fishing trip to the Oregon cost like he did almost every year. Mom had mentioned it was weird he had not called yet but she figured they must have been having a good day. After eating and presents we all went our separate ways and returned home. Mom drove to Cheney and I to the South Hill. Mom called my later to fill me in on what she found waiting for her at home. She had a message on her door from the Cheney Police Department telling her to call them right away. She made the call and was told the office was out and he would call as soon as he could. Mom then called a good friend of the family who’s husband was on the trip with dad. She had not heard from the guys either and they both though that was weird and then began to know something was wrong. Mom called the Police Dept. back and asked the lady to tell her what was going on, she had not heard from dad and was worried..something had to be wrong. The lady told mom that the police officer would be there shortly. Mom knew that was bad news. She lost it and knew for sure when a police officer and chaplain pulled up. Mom called me right away, bawling her heart out so much I could not understand her. I don’t remember all she said to me, I was in shock, my stomach feel to the floor, my heart skipped a beat.. I could not believe this was happening…I had her put the officer on the phone and made him tell me what had happened. There had been an accident and dad was missing. I grabbed Michael, the diaper bag and K.C. and I spend off to Cheney. Going over 100 miles/hour the drive was still way to long. It took us less then 20 min to make that 40-minute drive and from that moment on.. life was not the same…
