Well Shelby…here you go. I really enjoyed doing this layout so thank you for the wonderful inspiration. Journaling is in the folded green tucked into the pocket on page two and reads:

I love this picture from many reasons. This is me and my Grandma Allen, I’m guessing early 1978 when I was around two. This is the only picture I have of the two of us when I was little. It’s not the best picture but I love it all the same, for it’s not the quality of the picture but the quality of the memories the picture recalls that’s important. My grandma was an amazing woman. She was in the British army during WWII. It was then that she met my grandpa on the subway late one night. They married in England very shortly after and then made the move to the states, leaving my grandma’s family in England. The first sire she saw when she arrived in America was the Statue of Liberty…the date of her arrival? July 4th. The true American dream I suppose. She was the epitome of the word grandma…she made the best Sunday dinners and the best desserts…lemon meringue pies, rice pudding and almond tarts being her specialties. Despite her sweetness though, she was strong and she was tough. She was the only one who could keep my obstinate grandpa in line. They were so successful at maintaining that delicate balance that is integral to a meaningful, successful marriage. Not only was she strong in her marriage but in her faith and body as well. She had a kidney transplant in 1975 so she lived a good life long after she might have. Up until the end, she remained positive and strong and I will always love her and respect her so much for that. Unfortunately, she passed away just weeks short of her 50th Anniversary with my grandpa. Another reason I adore this photograph? In this picture, I can see so much of Jake in me. Jake is a Daddy’s boy through and through in the looks department…same dark eyes, same bushy eyebrows, same full lips. When he sleeps though, this is what he looks like. I love seeing this little bit of me in him when he is in such a serene and peaceful state. And finally, as I finish this journaling that I started yesterday, this photo has taken on additional signifigance as I almost lost it. While running the water to take a shower, Jake ran into the bathroom with this picture that he snatched from the desk and promptly tossed it into the tub. A couple of minutes of frantic drying and a little while restoring it on the computer saved it. I’ll always treasure this picture and the memories of my grandma that it helps keep close to my heart.
TFL!.
.
