Journalling reads (ready for some trivia?):One of the most famous things to do at Niagara Falls is take the Maid of the Mist boat cruise. Operating since 1846, the Maid of the Mist takes tourists deep into the heart of the Horseshoe Falls. We were advised that the mist would be like a light rain, but it was far from it, easily drenching passengers at the front of the boat, and definitely proving why we needed to wear these blue rain ponchos.
The Horseshoe Falls are 52 metres high and stretch for 750 metres long at the brink. Around 90% of the water that flows over these three falls (American, Bridal Veil, and Horseshoe), rushes over the brinks of Horseshoe Falls. The sheer volume of water gives these falls their distinctive green colour, which is especially visible from the lookout area at Terrapin Point.
At the base of the falls you feel totally enclosed, with a view of nothing but the heavy mist and the falls rising far above as the Maid of the Mist completes its turn to head back out. I was amazed to learn 6060 cubic metres of water originally rushed over these falls every second (2.09 trillion litres of water an hour!) Today, with around half of this water diverted for power in the USA and Canada, there is still a little over 1 trillion litres of water flowing over the brink every hour.

A fairly clean layout for me, based on a Becky Fleck sketch. Misc ribbon from my stash (that I'm glad to have finally used up), Junkitz blue split ring, HS chipboard alpha, AC rub ons, MM stickers, misc boat charm, pressed penny from Niagara! TFL!
