Oh, do I remember Sesame Street when it first started. I had a little sister then and she watched it, but she wanted company when she did. I'm ten years older and she was my baby doll. Thanks for mememories, you did a great job on the page!
This is a sketch challenge for the August pages challenge. Journaling behind focal photo reads:It was a rare occurrence for Becky to wear a dress, but this was a special occasion. Grandma was taking the grandkids to see Sesame Street Live at the Fox Theatre! Becky adored the TV show, so she was especially overjoyed at the prospect of seeing Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Big Bird, and especially Oscar the Grouch in “person”. The program was on PBS every day, so the VCR was set to tape it so that it could/would be watched multiple times until the next day when the cycle would repeat itself. She was probably watching too much TV, but it was her little obsession. I have many memories myself about the Sesame Street Show. Occasionally, PBS would show a special, starring the Sesame Street characters. These were also taped, but then saved indefinitely. I remember the tragedy that struck one day when the special tape was left in the recorder and part of it was taped over by the daily show. We survived that, but there were other incidents along the way. When my Grandma came to stay for a month, it was kind of funny watching Becky and Great Grandma fight over the TV. They were acting about the same age. Of course Becky lost the battle, but as soon as Great Grandma fell asleep (which happened in no time) Becky took back over the TV rights. Her viewing ended up being restricted when Desert Storm broke out, because my mom and dad really wanted the TV tuned to CNN 24/7 to stay on top of what was going on with the war. While she still watched Sesame Street a lot, I think this helped break her television viewing habit.
