IRISH MERCHANT KILLED IN PIRATE RAMPAGEDATELINE: 1757, BARBADOSA North Carolina man was killed today when the ship he was on was raided by pirates near the Island of Barbados.47 year old John Theophilus Thompson was among those killed when a band of pirates boarded the merchant ship he was on. The ship was on it’s way from Barbados with supplies of sugar and other goods when it was overrun by a pirate ship and succumbed to it’s fate.Thompson, a native of County Tyrone, Ireland, recently living in Robeson, North Carolina leaves behind a wife, Nepsy John Thompson, and nine children, eight who are from a former marriage to Anna Butt.Thompson’s body was buried in the Carribean Sea.
